Description

In a sun‑lit September morning, two young Australian officers, Jim and Wally, find a brief slice of peace on the green chairs of Hyde Park. Their conversation flits from teasing the stroller‑bound “dukes” to the easy camaraderie that makes the bustling London streets feel almost domestic. The banter, peppered with humor and gentle ribbing, paints a vivid picture of youthful spirit amid the clatter of traffic and the distant hum of war.

Their lighthearted moment shifts when Jim unfolds a letter from their comrade, John O’Neill, written on the eve of a crucial battle. The missive carries a mixture of melancholy and resolve, hinting at O’Neill’s fear of not returning and his unexpected offer of a family estate back in Australia. As the friends absorb the weight of the words, the story promises to follow their journey from the tea‑scented parks of England to the uncertain front lines, exploring loyalty, sacrifice, and the ties that bind them across continents.
