In this case, Anonymous is not a single known writer but a label used for a work whose creator was never named, was deliberately left unnamed, or has been lost over time.

Anonymous authorship is especially common with older literature, traditional tales, religious writing, and works that circulated widely before modern publishing practices made authorship more fixed and public. Sometimes anonymity was a choice; sometimes history simply failed to preserve the name.
