Description

Set against the rolling hills and wind‑swept coasts of Kent in the late eighteenth century, this tale weaves together fact and imagination to portray a world where the ordinary and the illicit intertwine. The narrator paints a vivid picture of village life, the clang of new clocks marking progress, and the ever‑present tension between law‑abiding citizens and those who profit from the shadows of the sea. It feels like a living museum, where every lane and churchyard carries the echo of secret meetings and whispered loyalties.

At the heart of the story is a daring smuggler named Harding, whose bold raids on Goudhurst Church and daring escapes captivate the listener. An undercover officer, disguised as a simple trader, infiltrates the smugglers’ circle, only to be discovered in a moment of tense suspense. As the dragoons close in and the peasants rise to defend their homes, the narrative balances romance, danger, and the stark reality of a criminal enterprise that once haunted the English countryside.
