Description

In the early spring of 1520 a lone rider winds his way along a serpentine road through Kent, his pack heavy with the tools of a wandering gentleman‑scholar. The narrative opens with vivid descriptions of his gear and the countryside, setting a tone of restless curiosity that carries the listener toward the grand spectacle awaiting him. As the traveler draws nearer to the historic crossroads of Wye and Canterbury, the promise of a momentous encounter begins to loom on the horizon.

Beyond the winding lanes lies the legendary Field of the Cloth of Gold, where King Henry VIII and his French counterpart, Francis I, have assembled an extravagant court of pageantry, tournaments, and diplomatic intrigue. Amid the glittering tents and rival courtiers, our protagonist becomes entangled in the ambitions, secrets, and fleeting romances that swirl around the event. The first act offers a rich tapestry of Tudor politics and personal adventure, inviting listeners to step into a world where history and imagination race side by side.
