Description

A young nobleman, Claude de Blenau, bursts from the vaulted corridors of the Palais Cardinal with spurs clattering and a heart full of restless hope. He is driven by a romantic conviction—to win Pauline de Beaumont’s affection—yet he cannot ignore the oppressive reach of Cardinal Richelieu’s court, where courteous words often conceal ruthless deeds. As he rides toward Saint‑Germain, the narrative balances his chivalrous pride with the faint, ever‑present fear that the very authorities he admires may become his undoing.

Arriving at the royal palace, Claude seeks a fleeting audience with Queen Anne, hoping to secure a place in the Queen’s circle before the evening’s separations. The bustling, etiquette‑laden world of the French court reveals a delicate dance of loyalty, ambition, and danger, forcing him to decide whether to follow the path of honor or to bend beneath the Cardinal’s looming shadow. Listeners are invited into a richly detailed early‑modern France, where love and politics collide in a tense, character‑driven struggle.
