Description

The story opens on a brooding country estate that seems to have been stitched together from many different phases of early‑seventeenth‑century design. Its countless chimneys and irregular windows give the building a labyrinthine silhouette, while lichen‑stained bricks and silent elms lend it an air of melancholy isolation. From the distant parkland, where deer wander among ancient oaks, the house looms like a solemn sentinel over a landscape of muted life.

Inside one of the higher, modest chambers, a fifteen‑year‑old boy sits at a walnut table, his pen poised over Latin verses of Cicero’s Cato Major. Surrounded by well‑worn volumes and the faint glow of a fireplace, he embodies the restless curiosity of youth amid the weight of history. As he studies, the quiet of the room hints at secrets waiting to surface, promising a tale where personal ambition and the era’s political currents may soon intertwine.
