Description

In the bustling seaside town of Beauleigh, the Deanery School hums with anticipation as a coveted scholarship draws near. Three bright boys from each local school will vie for the prize, and the rivalry fuels both jokes and earnest ambition among the pupils. Among them is Dick Boden, a mischievous yet good‑natured lad whose cheerful grin and “angelic” reputation make him a favorite among friends and teachers alike.

Dick’s best mate, Jim Hartland, a steady sailor’s son, shares his enthusiasm for the contest, and the two set off in a spirited sprint to the school gates the morning the candidates are to be announced. Their playful race turns chaotic when Dick collides with a dignified gentleman, drawing the startled attention of the school inspector. The sudden hush that falls over the playground hints that this harmless competition may have consequences far beyond a simple prize, setting the stage for a memorable school adventure.
