Description

Set against the rugged wilderness of mid‑nineteenth‑century Ticonderoga, the novel follows a determined yet weary frontiersman whose life has been defined by relentless service to his community. As he surveys the dense forests and the restless lake shores, his inner monologue reveals a deepening crisis of faith: the stark contrast between his lofty ideals and the harsh realities of a world that seems indifferent, even hostile, to noble effort.

Against this backdrop, he becomes entwined with the spirited Edith Prevost and the enigmatic figure known as the Black Eagle, whose presence hints at both danger and unexpected alliance. Their intertwined fates lead them through perilous encounters with hostile forces, fraught decisions about loyalty, and a looming threat of Indian retaliation. The early chapters weave personal disillusionment with the broader struggle for survival, drawing listeners into a tale of honor, sacrifice, and the uneasy search for meaning on a frontier where every step may echo with unforeseen consequence.
