Description

Set against a crisp September evening in 1456, the story opens with the luminous autumn light spilling over the Burgundian countryside, hinting at both beauty and looming conflict. The young heir, Mary of Burgundy, stands at the center of a fragile alliance, her marriage a pawn in the power games of Europe. At the same time, we meet Albert Maurice, a spirited citizen of Ghent whose fierce patriotism and restless ambition set him on a collision course with the forces that seek to dominate his city.

The narrative weaves together personal longing and sweeping historical drama, painting the tense atmosphere of a region on the brink of revolt. As Maurice navigates loyalty, love, and the harsh realities of political intrigue, listeners are drawn into a world where ideals clash with ambition. The first act establishes a vivid tableau of 15th‑century Europe, promising a tale of honor, betrayal, and the relentless quest for freedom.
