In a remote German estate, the aging Count Moor watches his two sons drift apart under the weight of inheritance and ambition. The elder Maximilian, charismatic and impulsive, dreams of a grand destiny and resents the constraints of noble decorum. His younger brother Karl, thoughtful and idealistic, strives to honor their father's wishes while questioning the corrupt court that surrounds them. When a misunderstanding leads to Maximilian’s exile, the fragile family equilibrium shatters, setting the brothers on opposite paths.
Maximilian gathers a band of disgruntled outlaws, turning their grievances into a fierce, though chaotic, crusade against the aristocracy. Karl, now left to manage the estate, wrestles with guilt and a growing awareness of the moral cost of vengeance. The play examines the clash between raw liberty and societal order, asking whether true freedom can ever be achieved without sacrificing conscience.
