A melancholy Duke pines for a lady who will not return his affection, and he fills his court with music and poetic sighs, hoping the sounds will cure his yearning. He sends his trusted page, a clever young woman disguised as a messenger, to woo the noblewoman on his behalf, setting off a chain of witty banter and tender confessions. The lady, mourning her own loss, remains steadfastly unattainable, while the page finds herself drawn into a surprising emotional tangle.
Meanwhile, a shipwreck brings twins to the same shore, one of whom hides in disguise, further complicating the web of longing and mistaken identity. As the characters chase love, friendship, and self‑discovery, the play blends sharp humor with heartfelt moments, inviting listeners to revel in the playful twists of fate that define the first act.

A playwright, poet, and actor from Stratford-upon-Avon, he created characters and lines that have stayed alive for more than four centuries. His stories of love, ambition, jealousy, power, and forgiveness still feel startlingly human.
