Description

Born in 1837 Berlin, Georg Ebers spent his youth wrestling with illness and restless ambition. His early years are painted with vivid memories of family, schoolroom challenges, and a yearning for purpose that led him from a turbulent student life to the quieter study of ancient cultures. The narrative follows his first steps into Egyptology, sparked by a fascination with hieroglyphs that would steer his future.

In his twenties, Ebers translates his passion into literature, producing the novel An Egyptian Princess while carving a scholarly path that earns him a professorship at Göttingen. Alongside his scholarly achievements, he marries the daughter of a Riga burgomaster, whose partnership helps bring his works to an international audience. The autobiography captures the blend of scientific rigor and romantic imagination that defines his early career, offering listeners insight into the making of a man who would later uncover the famed Ebers Papyrus and become a celebrated novelist of antiquity.
