Description

In a windswept corner of the Alps, an isolated inn clings to the mist‑shrouded shore of a lake that locals call the Dead Lake. Inside, a weary landlady tends a meager fire while a cranky landlord battles restless flies, and a barefoot maid spins beneath the dim light. The storm outside presses against the windows, setting a tone of restless unease that seems to echo in every creak of the timbered walls.

Against this backdrop a drenched stranger appears at the door, his travel‑worn suit dripping and his hat still heavy with rain. He accepts only a jug of water, refusing the modest supper offered, and settles into a corner with a silence that unnerves the inn’s occupants. The landlord mutters about the habit of such guests disappearing with the linens, while the maid watches the stranger’s eyes flicker in the candlelight. As the night deepens, his enigmatic presence and the whispered rumors of a vanished road hint at hidden histories and a tension that may soon surface.
