Description

Count Abel Larinski is a restless inventor whose dream of selling a revolutionary rifle has crumbled under failed tests and mounting debts. He wanders through Europe, hoping a chance commission will revive his fortunes, when a sudden stop at a modest Swiss hotel finds him far from the bustling workshops of Vienna.

Mlle Antoinette Moriaz, an independent heiress accustomed to the cultured salons of Paris, travels with her ailing father on a health‑prescribed retreat. She delights in the simple pleasures of walking in woods, painting, and generous charity, showing little interest in marriage despite society’s expectations.

Their paths converge in the Alpine town of Chur, where circumstance places the determined count beside the carefree yet principled young woman. As they exchange glances over a shared carriage and a modest meal, the story hints at a budding connection that could alter both their destinies, even as each clings to very different ambitions.
