Description

In the early twentieth‑century French countryside, a strikingly independent woman has turned her inherited fortune into a grand charitable enterprise. Mme Sauvigny, a young widow of immense means, has transformed a sprawling estate into a meticulously run hospice for the elderly, complete with immaculate linens, heated wards and a self‑directed administration that reflects both her exacting taste and her desire for purposeful leisure. Yet beneath the polished façade lies a restless spirit who, after being pushed out of her own château, retreats to a modest yet charming chalet that borders a river‑lined terrace, a sanctuary where she can indulge in quiet contemplation.

When the renowned provincial surgeon Dr Oserel arrives, his reputation for treating women’s ailments adds a new layer of intrigue to her carefully ordered world. Their encounters spark whispers of an unconventional alliance, prompting neighbors and acquaintances to speculate about motives and future entanglements. As the narrative unfolds, listeners are drawn into a delicate dance of philanthropy, pride, and the subtle tensions that arise when personal ambition meets the expectations of society.
