Description

A crisp autumn morning in 1921 finds the seasoned detective Asbjörn Krag stepping out of his travelling coat and straight into a police chief’s office, where a baffling series of jewel‑laden bag thefts is threatening to cripple the department’s reputation. The crimes have unfolded across the continent’s rail network, each loss more valuable than the last, and the trail leads to a crowded carriage where four respectable women were the only witnesses. Krag, accustomed to methodical observation, is asked to abandon his leave and plunge back into the field, his curiosity ignited by the seemingly impossible disappearances.

The narrative follows Krag as he surveys the opulent yet cramped train compartment, noting the subtle gestures of the high‑ranking diplomat’s wife, the painter Clara, and a hair‑dresser whose presence seems oddly incongruent. Through careful questioning and a keen eye for the smallest inconsistencies, he begins to map out a pattern that suggests more than a simple pickpocket’s work. The story balances atmospheric details of early‑twentieth‑century travel with a cerebral puzzle, inviting listeners to join the detective in untangling a mystery that is as much about human ambition as it is about stolen gemstones.
