Description

A private investigator finds his quiet office suddenly filled with two imposing, fur‑clad strangers—Anders Anderson, a Swedish‑American, and John Inderdale, a Norwegian‑American—who speak of a high‑society theft that has left a countess bereft of a priceless necklace. Their urgent request drags the detective into the tangled world of the International Trade House, a shadowy network that operates between New York, London and Kristiania, and hints at wartime intrigue and hidden motives.

From the moment the men arrive, the story weaves a vivid portrait of 1920s Helsinki, where elegant soirées mask dangerous dealings. As the investigator navigates polite but tense negotiations, he must decide whether to involve the police or trust the enigmatic clients. The early chapters set the stage for a classic whodunit, promising a chase through opulent drawing rooms, secretive corridors, and the undercurrents of a city still feeling the aftershocks of a recent war.
