Description

Set against the sun‑blazed harbor of Havana, the story follows young midshipman Jack Darcy as he navigates the bustling decks of HMS Rattler. The tropical heat and clamor of Spanish and Creole life create a vivid backdrop for his camaraderie with fellow “middies” like Charlie Balfour and the steady coxswain Ned Burton. When a sudden recall signal rattles the fleet, the crew is thrust into an unexpected departure toward Santiago, hinting at trouble on the high seas.

The terse orders speak of a mutiny aboard a merchant ship and a murder that threatens the delicate balance of naval authority. Jack and his mates scramble into a cutter, their oars cutting through golden waters as they race back to their frigate, eager to uncover the cause of the alarm. From the crowded wharf to the looming mystery beyond the harbor, the narrative promises daring chases, fierce confrontations, and the raw pulse of life aboard a 19th‑century warship.
