NOTES DU TRANSCRIPTEUR
A bold knight from Nevers, Girard, finds himself drawn into the intrigues of King Louis the Fat’s court, where he first encounters the strikingly beautiful Euriant. Their budding affection is quickly tangled with the machinations of the cunning Liziart of Forest, who, aided by a deceitful old woman, tries to claim the young lady for himself. The false woman’s treachery leads to a dramatic confrontation that forces Girard to act, setting the stage for a perilous journey beyond the castle walls.
Venturing into the forest of Orliens, Girard faces a deadly serpent that threatens his life and the safety of Euriant. Though he survives the encounter, his triumph is short‑lived as the formidable Duke of Metz appears, seizing Euriant and whisking her away despite her protests. This early clash of honor, love, and power propels the tale into a larger saga of chivalry and destiny.
