A medieval French poet remembered for turning courtly adventure into vivid, fast-moving romance. Best known for Le Roman de la violette, he also helped carry forward the Arthurian world through a continuation of Perceval.

by active 13th century de Montreuil Gerbert
Gerbert de Montreuil was a 13th-century French poet, or trouvère, from northern France. He is chiefly known for Le Roman de la violette—also called Gérard de Nevers—a romance admired for its lively storytelling and its feel for the customs of its time.
He is also associated with the Conte du Graal tradition, having written one of the continuations to Chrétien de Troyes's unfinished Perceval. That places him within the rich stream of medieval writers who expanded Arthurian material for new audiences.
Very little seems to be known for certain about his personal life, which is common for writers of the medieval period. What remains most visible is the work itself: polished verse, courtly themes, and a lasting place in the history of Old French literature.
