Description

In the wake of Rome’s 1527 conquest, a wealthy merchant named Ambrogio is torn apart when his twin children are taken by opposing forces. His beautiful daughter Nicuola, captured and later rescued, becomes the object of several suitors, while her brother Paolo is presumed dead. Determined to win back her freedom and the love of the young noble Lattanzio, Nicuola devises a daring plan: she disguises herself as a male page named Romulo and infiltrates Lattanzio’s household, all under the watchful eye of her governess.

Meanwhile, Paolo, having survived his own ordeals, returns to Italy intent on reuniting with his father and uncovering his sister’s fate. The tangled web of mistaken identities, secret rendezvous, and competing affections sets the stage for a lively comedy of errors, where loyalties are tested and humor arises from the chaos of disguise and desire. Listeners are invited to follow the unfolding intrigue as each character navigates love, loss, and the hope of restoration.

About the author

William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare

1564–1616

A playwright, poet, and actor from Stratford-upon-Avon, he created characters and lines that have stayed alive for more than four centuries. His stories of love, ambition, jealousy, power, and forgiveness still feel startlingly human.
