Description

The drama opens in the somber shadows of Westminster Abbey, where the body of the late king lies beneath a radiant canopy. A circle of powerful dukes, earls, and clergy—Bedford, Gloster, Exeter, and others—gather to grapple with the sudden void, their speeches a mix of grief, reverence, and restless ambition. Their voices echo the weight of a nation on the brink, each noble measuring his own claim against the memory of a ruler once hailed as “the king of kings.”

A messenger arrives from war‑torn France, bearing grim tidings of battles, betrayals, and the desperate need for fresh leadership. The English court’s factions clash over strategy, loyalty, and the cost of continuing the conflict across the Channel. As the stakes rise, listeners are drawn into the tense interplay of honor, political maneuvering, and the haunting question of whether the kingdom can unite under a new banner.

About the author

William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare

1564–1616

A playwright, poet, and actor from Stratford-upon-Avon, he created characters and lines that have stayed alive for more than four centuries. His stories of love, ambition, jealousy, power, and forgiveness still feel startlingly human.
