Description

In the shadow of a massive stone Serapis temple, a narrow strip of ramshackle dwellings clings to the desert floor of Memphis’s necropolis. Sun‑bleached limestone walls glow in the morning light while wind stirs the dusty air, turning the cramped rooms into hazy chambers of grit and straw. A sleek gray cat slips through a broken doorway, its green eyes flickering as it disappears back toward the temple courtyard, hinting at the restless life that stirs within these forgotten stones.

The modest interior reveals two women huddled over a simple wooden chest, their long brown hair tangled as they attempt to comb it with practiced patience. Their surroundings are stark—earthen bowls, a golden jug, woven mats stretched over sheepskin—yet a quiet humor brightens the scene when one of them suddenly freezes, eyes widened, as a muffled footstep approaches. The listener is invited to share their morning rituals, the subtle tension between comfort and unease, and the mystery that lingers just beyond the cracked doorway.
