Description

An otherworldly messenger descends upon the besieged realm of Jerusalem, urging the valorous Duke Godfrey to rally the Christian princes and knights for a holy crusade. He gathers a diverse host—war‑hardened veterans, idealistic youths, and noble lords—each driven by faith, honor, and the promise of reclaiming sacred ground. Their early march is marked by fierce clashes with Turkish forces, daring sieges of fortified towns, and the stirring camaraderie that binds them even as the specter of doubt looms.

Amid the clamor of battle, personal passions begin to surface: youthful Rinaldo wrestles with restless longing, while Tancred confronts the pangs of unrequited love. These intertwined threads of duty and desire set the stage for a tale where divine will, heroic ambition, and human frailty collide, inviting listeners to experience the grandeur and turmoil of the first act of this timeless epic.
