Description

A sturdy fifteen‑year‑old known as Grit lives with his widowed mother in a modest cottage at Pine Point. Though short for his age, his clear eyes and unyielding will earn him a reputation for toughness that even his mother embraces. He earns a modest living as a boatman on the nearby waters.

Their uneasy peace is shattered when news arrives that Grit’s stepfather, a disgraced former merchant, will be released early from prison. His mother, already strained by past hardships, fears the return of a man whose drinking and bad dealings wrecked their former life. Grit, fiercely protective, vows to shield his mother and preserve the fragile stability they have built.

As the town’s currents swirl with rumors and old debts, Grit must navigate both the literal tides of his trade and the looming threat of his stepfather’s influence. Friendships and rivalries emerge, testing his resolve and shaping his coming‑of‑age journey. Listeners will be drawn into a gritty portrait of loyalty, survival, and the harsh beauty of river life.
