Description

Bob Jennings is a hard‑working fisher‑boy from the bustling harbor of Newport, whose days are spent shuttling ship‑carpenters and casting nets that return empty. Despite his relentless effort, a string of bad luck leaves him just twelve cents richer than the day before, and the modest savings he’s set aside for his mother’s security are slipping through his fingers. He dreams of swapping his rickety scow for a fine vessel, hoping to finally earn enough to fund his first voyage at sea and give his family some stability.

In the quiet moments between pulling in his line, Bob wrestles with a stubborn resolve: cling to the little fortune he’s managed to protect, or risk it all for a chance at a brighter future. As the tide turns, the choices he makes will test his courage, his loyalty to his mother, and the belief that “fortune favors the brave.” The story follows his struggle to break free from a cycle of misfortune and set a new course for his life.
