Description

Set against the rolling fields of Virginia, the tale follows the Wingfield family as the nation teeters on the brink of war. Young Vincent, a British officer‑turned‑planter, returns to his new home after his father's sudden death, only to find his estate—called the Orangery—entangled in the growing tension between North and South. Within its walls, the relationships between masters, overseers, and the enslaved labor force begin to strain under the weight of conflicting loyalties.

As the first battles loom, the narrative captures the uneasy calm before the storm, showing how personal honor and moral conviction clash with the brutal realities of a society about to be torn apart. Listeners will be drawn into vivid scenes of plantation life, heated debates over secession, and the simmering dread that propels characters toward choices that will shape their futures. The story offers a gripping, historically grounded portrait of a nation on the edge of transformation.
