Description

A bright August morning finds a fifteen‑year‑old lad perched on a low wall, watching a procession of armed men stream toward the Earl of Evesham’s castle. His mixed Saxon‑Norman heritage is evident in his lithe build, blue jerkin, and the crossbow slung across his knees—signs that set him apart from the surrounding peasants. Though he appears a casual observer, his sharp mind is already weighing the rumors of feuds and forest raids that swirl through the countryside.

The gathering of troops hints at a looming clash with the outlawed baron of Wortham, whose raids have threatened both the noble lands and the nearby woodlands the boy feels compelled to protect. As he hurries to the nearby manor, his curiosity turns to a quiet resolve: he may soon be drawn into the conflict, balancing his love for the forest with the harsh demands of feudal loyalty. The story unfolds against the backdrop of medieval politics, knighthood, and the restless spirit of a youth on the brink of becoming a knight.
