Wilhelm sets out again, intent on re‑uniting with the companions he has left behind. His journey leads him across gentle, cultivated hills and into a verdant valley where a well‑kept castle crowns a wooded rise. The inn at its foot is occupied by a meticulous steward who, despite a temporary shortage of rooms, offers Wilhelm a modest three‑day stay under a set of curious rules: observe quietly and accept whatever unfolds without questioning the reasons.
Inside the guest chamber, a gilded inscription hints at the nature of human gatherings, prompting Wilhelm to reflect on his own wanderings. Two young singers arrive, their practiced duet filling the hall, and they invite him to share any melody that haunts his thoughts while he walks. He reveals a fragment of an inner rhythm that guides his steps, sparking a quiet exchange that hints at the deeper artistic and philosophical currents that will shape his continuing quest.
