As twilight deepens, Detroit’s drawbridge lowers for the third night since the garrison fell, the heavy chains rattling with a cautious rhythm. A few tired guards patrol the walls, their sleepy gazes barely hiding the covert activity burning in the barracks square. Two young officers, now dressed in rough coats, deer‑skin moccasins and false queues, swap their polished uniforms for the guise of frontier hunters.

Hidden beneath their disguises are pistols, daggers and powder horns, hinting at a sudden, unseen raid while the officers around them speak in low, serious tones. Even the usually stoic governor moves restlessly, a rare flash of anxiety marking his face as he receives a whispered order from his adjutant. The night thickens with a sense of impending conflict, drawing listeners into a world of secret loyalties and looming danger on the dim fort.
