Description

On an early April day in 1812, a modest farmstead on the southern branch of the Chicago River becomes a crossroads of lives on the frontier. Gathered around a crackling fire are a rugged woodsman, a seasoned French‑Canadian trader, a thin, weary American soldier, and a lanky fourteen‑year‑old boy. Their varied dress and hard‑won scars speak of countless hardships, while the warm glow of the hearth offers only a brief respite from the untamed wilderness that presses in beyond the windows.

As the men share their stories over a simple midday meal, the quiet is soon broken by rumors of stirring unrest among the nearby tribes. Each character brings a different motive—survival, duty, curiosity, and the promise of a future—yet all feel the pull of an approaching conflict that could reshape the whole region. With tension mounting, the fragile camaraderie forged in that humble house may be the only thing standing between them and the looming clash on the frontier.

In the opening act, listeners are drawn into a vivid portrait of early‑American life, where the raw beauty of the landscape meets the simmering uncertainty of war. The stage is set for a tale of personal courage, cultural collision, and the harsh choices that await those who dare to stay.
