Description

A weary traveler and his teenage son arrive in the mist‑shrouded English town of Stow Ormond, seeking refuge after a long journey from warmer climes. The countryside is painted in autumnal hues, with damp air that clings to the leaves and the spider‑laden hedges, setting a quiet, introspective mood. The father, a determined man with a bronzed complexion that hints at distant lands, carries a hidden anxiety, while his son, eager yet uneasy in the chill, offers a fresh, questioning perspective on the unfamiliar surroundings.

They find lodging at the old Horse and Wheel Inn, a timeless establishment whose thatched roof and creaking signpost promise a brief sanctuary. Inside, a genial landlord and a cheerful waiting‑maid welcome them, providing a glimpse of rural hospitality that contrasts with the father’s inner turmoil. As they settle in, the familiar comforts of the inn begin to stir memories, hinting at deeper ties to the place that may shape the days ahead.
