Description

Florence Huyler and her cousin “Captain Davie” are cruising the waters of Lake Superior aboard the sixty‑foot motor‑boat Wanderer, enjoying the rugged beauty of Isle Royale’s shoreline. When a strange yellow haze rolls across the horizon, they soon realize it isn’t a harmless cloud but smoke drifting from the island itself. The pair, seasoned adventurers and strong swimmers, are already uneasy about a risky venture that could jeopardize Florence’s grandfather’s finances.

The uneasy calm shatters when a bronze‑faced Indian crewman confirms the terrible news: a fire is raging at Siskowit Bay, threatening the camps of local workers. A demanding passenger insists on keeping the original schedule, creating a clash of priorities that forces Davie and his crew to decide whether to abandon their timetable and race to aid the burning island. As tensions rise, the looming blaze and the pressure of family obligations set the stage for a desperate race against time.
