Description

Gaston Belward, a well‑to‑do Member of Parliament, spends his mornings sifting through dusty family archives, half‑curious and half‑driven by an uneasy sense of destiny. When a forgotten box surfaces in the solicitor’s office, it contains a handful of sealed documents that bear his own name and hint at a forgotten baronetcy, stirring a mix of cynicism and restless longing in the otherwise polished gentleman.

The discovery awakens a tug‑of‑war between his respectable public life and the wild, wandering spirit that once led him through Romany camps on Ridley Common. As he contemplates a sudden trip to Paris and a possible escape on a yacht, his thoughts turn to Delia, whose quiet composure hides a deeper tension. Gaston’s internal conflict—between duty, heritage, and the lure of adventure—sets the stage for a journey that promises both personal reckoning and the promise of something beyond his familiar world.
