A late‑night knock shatters the quiet of an elegant drawing‑room, and Herbert Whitmore finds himself face‑to‑face with a striking, unsettled woman whose turquoise eyes seem to hold a secret. She is dressed in fine, borrowed finery, yet her nervous demeanor betrays a purpose far more urgent than a simple social call. Whitmore’s mind races, weighing the possibilities of a plea, a demand, or a threat as the shadows of the richly appointed room deepen around them.
The visitor finally speaks, warning Whitmore that someone close to him has already turned murderous and that his own safety hangs in the balance. What she offers is a dangerous bargain—information in exchange for cooperation—leaving Whitmore to decide whether to trust this enigmatic stranger or to protect himself through silence. As tension builds, the listener is drawn into a tense game of manipulation, secrets, and looming peril that promises to test every instinct of the reluctant host.
