Description

Set against the windswept cliffs of Cornwall, two teenage friends find themselves thrust into the shadowy world of naval patrols during the Great War. Ross, the son of an admiral, and Vernon, the captain’s son, have spent a restless summer wandering the tides, only to stumble onto a mysterious meeting at the deserted St. Mena’s Island—a place once famed for smugglers and wreckers. Their innocent curiosity soon draws them into the tangled politics of espionage, where a hidden flag and a secretive German lieutenant hint at deeper dangers lurking beneath the waves.

As the war escalates, the boys are swept from their seaside idyll into the gritty reality of anti‑submarine work. Guided by seasoned officers and armed with newly‑developed patrol craft, they confront the relentless threat of silent hunters prowling the English Channel. The narrative balances vivid descriptions of rugged coastlines with the tense, claustrophobic atmosphere aboard patrol vessels, offering listeners a gripping glimpse into the perilous early days of undersea warfare.
