Description

In the summer of 1685, sixteen‑year‑old Clifford Hammond lives a quiet life on the edge of the New Forest, haunted by the recent turmoil of the Monmouth rebellion and the dwindling fortunes of his family. His father, a retired sea captain who once fought at Naseby, struggles to keep the Hammond name afloat after the Crown’s promises fall short. When a mysterious shipment to Southampton appears, Clifford and his spirited sister Constance sense that the ordinary may soon turn extraordinary.

Compelled by duty to their lineage and the lure of the sea, the siblings become entangled with the daring expedition of the merchant ship Golden Hope. As the vessel prepares to set sail, they are drawn into a world of naval intrigue, hidden cargo, and the promise of distant horizons. Their first steps onto the deck hint at a journey that will test courage, loyalty, and the very fate of the Hammond family.
