Description

In the dying light of an October night, a young officer leads his company through a tangled forest toward the bleak Blanc‑Sablon trenches, where rain, mire and the ever‑present threat of unseen enemy fire press down on every step. The narrative follows his uneasy bond with the charismatic Lieutenant Vignerte, whose calm demeanor and quiet compassion offer a flicker of humanity amid the claustrophobic dug‑outs and endless waiting. As the men huddle over cards and whispered hopes of home, the thin veil of routine war life begins to fray, hinting at something darker that lies beyond the front lines.

Beyond the battlefield, the narrator hints at a hidden tragedy that unfolded within the German court of Lautenburg‑Detmold just before the Great War erupted, a secret that haunts the surviving soldiers. The story weaves the stark realities of trench warfare with a subtle, unfolding mystery, inviting listeners to discover how personal loss and political intrigue become entwined in the shadow of history.
