Description

Two eager young men set sail from Lowestoft aboard the modest yet sturdy ketch Diomeda. Jack Hamerton, a freshly discharged Royal Navy sub‑lieutenant with a love of the sea, teams up with his new friend Oswald Detroit, an athletic American yachtsman from Richmond. Their camaraderie is forged quickly, rooted in shared sport, a taste for adventure, and a mutual desire to test their skill in the upcoming international races at Kiel.

As they push northward through thick white mist, the crew confronts the unforgiving North Sea, measuring depths and navigating unseen shoals. The fog thickens, the water grows colder, and the distant silhouette of Heligoland’s infamous sea‑girt fortress looms on the horizon, promising mystery and danger. Their journey becomes a test of courage, seamanship, and the bond that holds them together, inviting listeners to experience the thrill of early‑twentieth‑century seafaring adventure.
