Description

At the turn of the twentieth century, a small American missionary family arrives on the edge of Korea, a nation just opening to the world. They encounter bustling ports, quiet villages, and a culture rich in ancestor worship and spirit beliefs. The tale invites listeners to see where ancient traditions meet the first stirrings of Christianity.

Inside the missionary house, a lively debate erupts over whether to enlist Mr. Kit‑ze, a peculiar Korean guide whose odd habits mask a potentially sincere heart. Clarence, Helen, and Uncle Reid weigh his reputation—some call him a nervous money‑keeper, others a quietly devout man. Their conversation reveals both family doubts and growing curiosity about Korean spirituality.

As they plan a river trip, the mysterious red miriok—a talisman said to ward off malevolent spirits—draws attention, hinting at deeper mysteries. Listeners are pulled into a world where daily life intertwines with superstition, promising a gentle adventure of cultural discovery and heartfelt faith.
