Description

A tense evening at the Bank of England in the early 1900s sets the stage for a puzzling crime. When a special midnight council convenes, the bank’s directors discover that a neatly wrapped package of £150,000 has vanished from the teller’s table. Chief Inspector Major Andrews of Bow Street is called in, and his methodical questioning of the staff hints at hidden motives and secret dealings.

The investigation quickly becomes a battle of wits, as Andrews probes the teller, the cashier, and other officials, each guarded by the strict rules of their profession. The locked doors, the routine of daily visits, and the mysterious draft that was supposed to be paid create a web of possibilities. Listeners are drawn into a classic whodunit, where every detail—from a spring‑locked door to a lunchtime delivery—could hold the key to uncovering the audacious theft.

About the author

H. R. Naylor

Known today for a single enduring mystery novel, this early 20th-century writer left behind a story of hidden secrets, suspicious events, and old-fashioned detective intrigue. The surviving record is slim, which gives the work an extra air of literary mystery.
