The story opens with a pair of exquisitely crafted boots—cream leather threaded with silver, sapphire silk, and crowned with pale amethysts—locked behind glass in an eccentric collector’s private museum. The old globetrotter who rescued them from a dusty Florentine shop dies alone, his final moments spent staring at the cursed relic, while his nervous housekeeper flees the scene in terror. A cryptic note left behind warns that the Medici boots have a malignant history, having once shod murderesses and been condemned by the Church as instruments of the Devil.
When the collector’s three young relatives inherit the museum, they must decide whether to obey his request to destroy the footwear or to surrender it to a public institution. The alluring beauty of the boots tempts the sister‑in‑law, while the brothers wrestle with superstitions and family loyalty. As curiosity battles fear, the first act sets the stage for a clash between ancient malice and modern skepticism.
