Description

In a bustling workshop tucked away from the glitter of the capital, a thin‑skinned but determined inventor named John Henry Overholt wrestles with the fickle fortunes of his Air‑Motor. After a promising debut, a rival steals his core idea and a skeptical financier, Mr. Burnside, refuses further backing, leaving Overholt teetering between ruin and resolve. Yet his belief in hope—a cheap, abundant commodity—keeps the gears turning as the first snow of Christmas begins to fall over the town.

Overholt’s struggle sparks a larger tale of community building, as a resourceful boy and a brave young woman join forces to raise the fledgling Little City of Hope from rubble. Together they experiment with makeshift bricks, share scant meals during a spreading famine, and confront a looming siege that threatens to unleash a metaphorical Pandora’s box. Their small acts of courage begin to stitch a fragile optimism through the cold winter, hinting at a festive spirit that could breathe life back into the city.
