Description

In the heart of Kentucky’s untamed forest, a tall, keen‑eyed youth moves like a shadow among ancient trees, the wind rustling through a canopy of ever‑changing greens. Henry Ware, dressed in hand‑tanned deerskin and humming with the sounds of creek and bird, feels every rustle, every call, as if the wilderness were his own kingdom. The opening pages paint a vivid tableau of streaking streams, scarlet tanagers flashing against moss, and distant columns of migrating birds that stir both awe and a quiet sense of belonging.

Beyond the serene tableau, Henry’s life intertwines with a band of fellow trail‑blazers—Paul, Shif’less, Long Jim, and Silent Tom—each carrying their own mysteries and loyalties. As they navigate the dense woodlands, they must read the signs of the land, outwit hidden dangers, and decide what it means to protect a place that gives them everything. The story promises a gentle yet suspenseful journey that celebrates camaraderie, respect for nature, and the challenges of growing up on the edge of the great woods.
