Description

In a cozy nursery filled with toys and picture‑filled walls, two inseparable eight‑year‑olds, Harry and Walter, nurture a grand imagination around a tiny three‑foot ship named Rover. Crafted by Harry’s uncle, the little vessel bears full sails, a pennon and a figurehead, yet it has never touched water. Their days are spent studying every nail and stitch, swapping sea stories, and dreaming of a day when the ship will glide on real waves. With school triumphs and occasional embarrassing slip‑ups, the boys balance bright curiosity with the gentle constraints of a mother wary of damp feet and colds.

The friends’ yearning for the open sea is fueled by Walter’s vivid recollections of a seaside visit and Harry’s endless reading of sailor adventures. Though the town of Rosehampton lies far from any ocean, the boys’ shared plans and whispered ambitions hint at a future beyond the nursery walls, where Rover might finally launch into the blue.
