Description

In the sweltering waters off Singapore, the aging dreadnought HMS Royal Oak languishes under a relentless sun while its sleek sister, the Repulse, flashes the White Ensign around the globe. The crew, sticky with sweat, fume over a recent gun‑range setback that saw the newer ship steal a coveted prize‑firing win. Amid grumbling officers and whispered talk of rank and patronage, a lingering rivalry with the flagship colours the everyday grind.

Enter Sub‑Lieutenant Basil Dacres, a nineteen‑year‑old with keen eyes, a fit frame and a reputation for harmless pranks. Raised by a stern retired colonel, Dacres balances military discipline with a mischievous streak that keeps his shipmates both wary and amused. As the Royal Oak prepares to set sail, his latest joke threatens to stir more than just laughter, promising a clash of personalities before the voyage truly begins.
