Description

In the humid heat of a remote Borneo outpost, District Officer James Battiscombe runs the cramped courthouse from his bungalow verandah, juggling endless land disputes and a restless marriage. His wife Vera, ever keen to appear interested, masks a sharper agenda behind polite conversation. Their daily existence is a blend of colonial bureaucracy, sweltering afternoons, and the occasional uneasy truce with the local populace.

The arrival of Dr. Abu‑Samar, a tall figure in a blue serge suit and crimson fez, unsettles the fragile routine. He claims expertise in tropical disease and a mission to uplift the native people, dismissing the company’s own medical staff as inadequate. Battiscombe, half‑amused and half‑suspicious, listens as the doctor outlines grand plans that clash with the established order.

As the magistrate grapples with his own complacency and Vera’s hidden motives, the newcomer’s ambitions promise to stir both professional and personal unrest. Listeners are drawn into a world where colonial authority, scientific curiosity, and covert aspirations intersect, setting the stage for a tension‑filled summer in the jungle.
