Description

A summer afternoon at the Red House drifts lazily under the hum of bees and the distant whir of a mower, but the quiet is broken when a mysterious visitor arrives, prompting a nervous chatter among the household staff. The genteel but puzzled servants, led by the observant housekeeper Mrs. Stevens, begin to piece together odd remarks about a long‑absent brother and an unexpected guest. Their uneasy conversations set the stage for a startling discovery that throws the genteel country home into turmoil.

Into this scene steps an unassuming solicitor, Mr. Gillingham, whose curiosity and dry wit quickly make him the de facto detective. As he interviews the eccentric residents and sifts through the tangled alibis, the listener is drawn into a genteel puzzle where every clue feels both ordinary and crucial. Milne’s crisp prose and subtle humor keep the mystery lively, inviting you to join the investigation before the first suspect is even fully introduced.
