Description

The play opens in the bright July morning of a genteel Buckinghamshire house, where the Marden family has lived for generations. The drawing‑room is described as charmingly antiquated, a place where new curtains and fresh carpets are the only things that might stir excitement. Mrs. Olivia Marden, eager for a little change, balances her desire for modern comforts with her husband George’s reverence for tradition.

Into this tranquil setting arrives the nervous Mr. Carraway Pim, who trips over a misplaced letter and a mis‑directed telegram request, prompting a series of polite blunders. He is greeted by the spirited nineteen‑year‑old Dinah, whose lively song and quick wit set a comic tone as they fumble over names and introductions. As the characters negotiate their misunderstandings, the audience gets a warm glimpse of family dynamics, social expectations, and the gentle humor that will guide the rest of the story.
