Description

Guida spends the morning of her wedding day caught between duty and longing, watching the tide rise toward the point where her husband’s ship, the Narcissus, will slip away. The quiet domestic routine—spinning at the wheel, sharing a simple meal with her aging grandfather—contrasts sharply with the restless anticipation that fills the coastal air. As she tends to the household chores, the sea’s endless blue beckons, hinting at the life she will soon leave behind.

Her grandfather, drifting between sleep and wakefulness, reflects on the passage of time and the woman Guida has become, his thoughts drifting from nostalgic memories of her mother to the honor of a noble name she now bears. When the hour arrives, Guida dresses carefully, hoping her presence on the shore will be seen through a telescope, a silent promise that love can still bridge the distance between land and sea. The scene captures a tender moment of hope and uncertainty on the cusp of a new chapter.
